On the 29th February 2016, Skylight9 Limited was officially born. Both Emma and I were completely new to running a business, but what we had was a passion and the determination to do what we knew businesses in Gloucestershire (and now beyond!) could believe in.
This article is not a sales tool or an attempt to gain new business – more of a celebration in keeping with the ethos of the Gloucestershire Woman of the Year Awards: revelling in the greatness of Gloucestershire’s women in business… and I’m lucky enough to work with one of the best! Since day one, Emma has been an inspiration, a woman on a mission and simply a pleasure to work with. We laugh every single day. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not been easy, the last 18 months have been a roller-coaster of emotions that no-one can prepare you for… you just buckle up and go for it!
I could sit here and wax lyrical in exact detail of how good Emma is at her job but that is for others to judge, I’m biased! What can be said, which is undeniable, her drive and personality make others around her strive to be better. We’ve been to meetings and I’ve looked in to the eyes of clients and can hear them thinking ”I need to work with this person”. There is no arrogance or egotism in how she conducts herself, it’s honesty, intelligence, hard work and belief in her subject matter.
To those that know her, the above comes as no shock. Away from work, there may be a few surprises. Emma. Loves. Cats. Adores them! Working in social media is the ideal space for a cat addict to get a fix! Three other random facts – Emma is a black belt in mixed martial arts, a green belt in Samurai sword and the former goalkeeper for Tewkesbury Town Ladies FC. So, don’t cross her… trust me! I am lucky to be alive to tell this tale! Emma is also one of the newest members of the Gloucester Quays Rotary.
Fast forward to 1st June 2017. Being nominated as a finalist was unbelievable, the other nominations were strong and all would be worthy winners. But, this was Emma’s night to shine. Award winning! I certainly did enough celebrating for the both of us though! In my opinion, this was well deserved and just reward for hard work paying off. Skylight9s Lady in Red took to the stage to receive her award and suddenly the gravity of how far we have come hit home.
Well done Emma and thank you!
Dave
